This week the New York Times asked the company that sells the drug that’s been approved for men to buy in order to have their prescription for it.
A representative of the drug maker Pfizer said the company has received reports of its prescription drug products being sold online, but that the company does not have any actual FDA approval for these products.
The companies have been selling the drugs in this way for years — but in some cases, this is not the case. Some have found that they are selling the drugs at an unusually low price.
“It’s all very strange and very expensive,” said Mike Schreiber, a spokeswoman for Pfizer. “We’ve been selling prescription drugs for a long time, and we’re not doing it anymore.”
The drugs are sold under brand names like Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and Stendra. They work by relaxing the blood vessels that supply the genital organ with blood, and it’s used to treat erectile dysfunction. They’re also used for treating a wide range of other medical conditions — including those linked to a rare but serious condition called prostatic hyperplasia.
For example, Viagra has been used to treat problems with impotence, which can be caused by a lack of blood flow to the penis. That’s why it’s sometimes prescribed to treat prostate cancer, and other prostate problems.
It’s also used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition that can affect men with a lack of prostate fluid.
“In terms of this, we’ve been very interested in the market of the brand name drugs,” said Jim Davis, a spokesman for Pfizer.
Pfizer says it is not marketing the drugs to consumers. They are selling them to doctors and to patients who need them.
However, the companies have not been able to get FDA approval to sell the drugs because of concerns about possible health risks.
The company’s website, for instance, lists a list of medications that are “all-inclusive.” It’s also linked to a database of health data from around the world. It lists medications that are listed in terms that are not included in the database.
“It’s not the first time that we’ve gotten this kind of a problem,” said Dr. David Nesmith, a professor of medicine at the University of Michigan. “We’ve done a lot of research and we’ve got to find a solution.”
For example, in October, the Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction, and Pfizer was able to sell the drugs to doctors and patients who need them. The drug is still under FDA review, but it still hasn’t been approved for sale.
In the meantime, Schreiber said, he has received a letter from the FDA requesting that the companies continue to sell the drugs.
“I’m not saying that’s the only way to get them,” Schreiber said.
If FDA approval is granted, Pfizer could still sell the drugs in the United States. But it will be sold to other companies as well.
